High-Level Delegation From Botswana Paid a Working Visit to Georgian Gambling Association to Discuss the Development of Gambling Industry and Exchange Experience

Upon the request of the Botswana representatives, a meeting was held between Mr. George Mamulaishvili, Head of the Georgian Gambling Association's Administration, representatives of the Gambling Consulting Authority, the Random Systems Georgia and the Ministry of Finance of Georgia and a high-level delegation from Botswana (Africa), represented by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Botswana Gambling Authority.

The main areas of interest of the Botswana side and topics for discussion at the meeting were:

  1. Legislation and regulation on i-Gaming: Exploring the intricacies of regulatory frameworks to ensure responsible and effective governance in the digital gaming sphere.
  2. Training and capacity building: Identifying ways to up-skill and equip stakeholders with the necessary expertise to navigate the complexities of i-Gaming.
  3. Compliance Enforcement: Understanding the operational mechanisms of service providers and systems used by operators, and developing strategies for robust regulatory enforcement.
  4. Geo-blocking mechanisms: Clarifying the functionality of geo-blocking concerning diverse licences and jurisdictional boundaries, crucial for maintaining regulatory integrity.
  5. Payment blocking systems: Strategizing on payment blocking systems to strengthen vigilance against illicit transactions and uphold financial integrity.
  6. Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols: Delving into the intricacies of KYC systems tailored for the i-Gaming sector, including adaptations for the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Following the results of discussion and presentation of gambling market in Georgia and in other European and Asian countries, as well as state regulation policies in this area, representatives of the Botswana delegation expressed interest in studying and implementing the best practices of Georgia in the effective regulation of gambling and strategies for the development of the industry to improve its regulatory framework and increase the efficiency of the gambling industry in Botswana.

The parties agreed to develop the partnership and continue exchanging experience in this area. In particular, the Gambling Consulting Authority’s team is ready to provide professional support and guidance, as well as develop detailed recommendations tailored to the unique needs of Botswana, including specific training programmes for staff and stakeholders, and proposals for improvements to the regulatory framework.

George Mamulaishvili's guidance and insights proved invaluable, underscoring the significance of international cooperation in navigating the evolving landscape of the gambling industry. Such initiatives not only pave the way for mutual growth and development but also exemplify the spirit of global partnership in addressing contemporary challenges and opportunities in the realm of gambling regulation.
