The business ombudsman talks about the possible negative consequences of regulating the gambling business.

The business ombudsman talks about the possible negative consequences of regulating the gambling business.

17 Sep, 2018

Business ombudsman Irakli Lekvinadze believes that banning gambling for citizens under the age of 25 may remove this segment of the population from the control of the state.
The regulation is being discussed by a working group set up by the Ministry of Finance in relation to the gambling business. “International practice in this area suggests something else, and it starts at the age of 18 or 21, and the artificial raising of the threshold may simply lead to the shadowing of people on the edge,” Lekvinadze said, expressing hope that the private sector would be involved in the legislative process.
“It is also important to prepare a regulatory impact document on this bill to see what impact these regulations may have on business or the social environment,” he said.
The group with the Ministry of Finance has not yet completed work on the bill, so it is unknown when and in what form the new regulations will be sent to parliament for approval.
