Citizens involved in gambling may find themselves in a single base

Citizens involved in gambling may find themselves in a single base

12 Sep, 2018

The working group at the Ministry of Finance of Georgia plans to establish new regulations for the gambling business. To this end, the group has prepared a bill, the innovations of which are not shared by the Gambling Business Association.

The bill provides for a number of regulatory mechanisms in the field, including the establishment of a register of those involved in gambling.

Giorgi Katamadze, a member of the board of the Gambling Business Association, explains that player bases are an expensive intangible asset for companies, the sharing of which is unacceptable for their competitors.

"A lot of investment has been made in collecting these bases and this is an important part of the competition between these companies. In case of a unified base, part of the competition will be significantly limited, ”Katamadze explained.

According to him, the gambling business sector has an offer for the government in exchange for this unified register.

"We offer them an alternative way to achieve their goal - in this case, the interests of business, the state and other stakeholders will be protected, which means giving companies the right to identify individuals in the registration process, based on information received from the Service Development Agency. Will let you know for sure who registered on the website. In this case, all operators will have their base and this will help the competition between operators, "- explained Giorgi Katamadze.

In addition, according to Giorgi Katamadze, according to the draft law, the registration of players should be carried out by the Revenue Service, which, in his opinion, is not a good initiative, as it will be difficult for an already overcrowded state agency to administer this process.
