On April 19, 2024, the Georgian Gambling Association (GGA) organized a significant workshop in Tbilisi to discuss the new law "On Personal Data Protection," which came into effect on March 1, 2024. The event aimed to provide detailed insights and guidance on the new regulations to members of the gambling business community.
Nikoloz Popiashvili, the head of the Personal Data Protection Service, led the workshop. He provided a comprehensive overview of the changes and innovations introduced by the new law, emphasizing their importance for compliance within the technology and business sectors. His presentation highlighted the need for businesses to adapt their internal processes to meet the new legal standards.
The workshop featured discussions on several key topics, including:
•    Mandate and Functions of the Personal Data Protection Service: Explaining the scope and authority of the service.
•    Legality of Data Processing: Clarifying what constitutes lawful data processing.

•    Data Processing through Video and Audio Monitoring: Addressing the legal considerations for using surveillance technologies.
•    Role of the Data Protection Officer: Discussing the responsibilities of data protection officers within organizations.
•    Incident Reporting Obligations: Detailing the requirement to report data breaches and other incidents to the Personal Data Protection Service.
