On June 27-29, the 27th General Assembly of the International Tax Administration Organization (IOTA) took place in Tbilisi, Georgia. This annual event, organized in collaboration with the Georgian Revenue Service, is considered the largest gathering within the IOTA community, making it a significant occasion.
The General Assembly serves as a valuable platform for tax administrations across Europe to come together and exchange knowledge, insights, and best practices, contributing to the continuous improvement of tax systems and administrations. The event welcomed a diverse range of participants, including IOTA members, representatives from the business community, and academia.
The first day of the assembly focused on the technical session, with the central theme revolving around the "Transformation of the International Tax System and Tax Administration." Esteemed speakers, including high-ranking government officials, professionals from international partner organizations, and experts from the business and academic sectors, shared their expertise through presentations, highlighting specific experiences and case studies. The discussions primarily aimed to explore effective and proactive approaches for addressing current and future challenges related to digital transformation in taxation.
The closing day of the General Assembly centered on further discussions and plenary sessions, focusing on the necessity of digital transformation in the tax system. Key topics included strategies for managing digital transformation, the role of data analytics in guiding tax processes now and in the future, and the importance of robust IT infrastructure and operations as a foundation for successful digital transformation.
With over 200 attendees from various European countries and beyond, the event provided a unique opportunity for knowledge-sharing and peer-learning. The participation of the Georgian Gambling Association, represented by George Mamulaishvili, head of the association's administration, was a significant honor. Being part of such a large-scale and important event allowed them to actively contribute to the discussions on current trends, challenges, and crucial experiences within the realm of taxation.
