Clone of Georgian online games, foreign sites and account rental service - these are the results that the gaming business association said new regulations in their field brought. Giorgi Mamulaishvili, the head of the association's administration, said in an interview with bm.ge that the ban on advertising encouraged the emergence of foreign illegal sites. In the local market, there are offers of renting out their accounts from adult citizens, who offer their accounts for about 100 GEL per month to those who are prohibited from playing under the new regulation.
"By restricting advertising, many clone sites of Georgian operators have appeared, which are neither representatives of Georgian operators nor have Georgian licenses. Rental of accounts has also started, young people aged 26-27-30 create accounts and rent them. Accordingly, the white list will become a gray list, what we call the gray market. Georgia was completely whitewashed because we knew who was behind our customer. Nowadays, with these restrictions, we got a worse situation", Giorgi Mamulaishvili states.
As a reminder, some of the restrictions imposed on gambling companies are already in force. From January 2022, the entities involved in this business will have their taxes increased and their taxable base will increase by 65-70%. Other regulations, including a ban on advertising and banning up to a million people from gambling, are due to come into effect on March 1.
