02 Dec, 2021

On November 22, Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili issued a statement, according to which he planned to first increase taxes for online casinos, ban advertisements and raise the age of players, and then ban them altogether.

A week later, a text was spread on the official Facebook page of Irakli Gharibashvili that according to his decision, the following regulations would be imposed on online casinos: the total taxable base of the online gaming sector will increase by 70%; Citizens of Georgia under the age of 25, socially vulnerable persons, civil servants, persons who apply to the Revenue Service with a request for self-limitation, as well as persons who will be blacklisted at the request of family members through the court, are prohibited from participating in gambling games. All kinds of television advertising of the gaming business, as well as outdoor advertising and placement of advertising on Georgian websites, will be prohibited.

Today, the Gaming Business Association (GGA), which unites the largest licensed online gaming business companies in Georgia, held a press conference. The head of his administration, George Mamulaishvili, fixed the position of the sector.

"In today's situation, if the government maintains a unilateral position and does not start a constructive dialogue with business, we will be forced to optimize costs, refuse a number of social and other projects, including sponsorship, and since the sports part of the business is meaningless with the announced changes, the business is forced to It will be necessary to discuss the issue of disconnection of the sports product, the online bookmaker," Mamulaishvili said.
