Uzbekistan Regulators Warn Of Risks Of Illegal Betting Advertising During The 2026 World Cup

Uzbekistan Regulators Warn Of Risks Of Illegal Betting Advertising During The 2026 World Cup

18 Jun, 2026

Authorities in Uzbekistan have stated that advertisements for unlicensed gambling are rapidly spreading across the internet.

Government agencies have warned about a rise in illegal online advertising promoting gambling services amid the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to regulators, such ads are actively appearing on social media platforms, various websites, and Telegram channels, seeking to capitalize on heightened public interest in the tournament.

As a reminder, the Uzbekistan national team is making its World Cup debut. In Group K, their opponents are Portugal, Colombia, and DR Congo.

Under Article 46 of the Law on Advertising, the promotion of gambling services is prohibited in the country. Officials stressed that both individuals and legal entities involved in creating, publishing, or distributing such advertisements may face legal consequences. It was also noted that the use of anonymous profiles, fictitious names, or foreign platforms does not exempt violators from liability under Uzbek law.

The Competition Committee reported that it is monitoring social media channels to identify potential violations. All suspected cases will be referred to the relevant authorities, including cybersecurity units within the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Authorities have urged citizens not to engage with illegal gambling advertisements, not to share such content, and to report violations through official channels.
